Body Pre-Fit

    Tips

    • Most builders will agree that the Body Pre-Fit option is a must. I heard it takes Ultima 40 hrs to complete it and most builders would take at least double that.
    • Nigel's 2nd video has great tips on what to do before removing the pre-fit body.

    Tips

    • You will need to install the center tub to determine the steering wheel hole. Subsequent measurements are based on that location.
    • For analog gauges, the layout is very straightforward (see Ultima diagram). If you're installing an AIM, every builder does it a bit differently. Install all or some buttons (AIM can do what some buttons do)? Where to locate buttons? Where to install AIM? Etc.
    • A 2 Din stereo can fit in the passenger area. Make sure the location will clear the AC/Heater and is high enough to clear the frame lower bar.
    • A 2 Din thick stereo will fit, but a 1 Din thick (2 Din face) will slide in much easier with the wiring and vents.
    • The AIM carbon fiber shroud can be trimmed. I did not trim mine, but I saw others take a lot off the back of the face so it sits back further (looks better). I believe this is necessary if you install behind the steering wheel.
    • The lower vents do not fit flush with the fiberglass. You will need to build it up a lot with bondo and then sand it down. Nigel's method is very good. I used a rasp to remove thick areas and then files and sandpaper to smooth it out.

    Tips

    • The Sidepod Brake Ducts are not as bad as people think. They're a lot of work, but it's not hard work...it's just very precise work. It's a lot of trial fitting and taking off 1mm at a time. The 2nd one gets done much much faster.
    • I found it much easier to use a brush to paint all of the body panels.
    • Spend a lot of time taping it perfectly. It'll save you a lot of time cleaning and remove excess paint later.

    Tips

    • Most people route the AC/Heater drains out of the car and let them hang. A friend recommended what I did (see photos). I bought the 1/4" Thru-Bulk Bulkhead Plastic Hose Barb Fittings off Amazon, cut them, installed them and secure the tubes with hose clamps.
    • When riveting in the bottom of the sidepods, you can either a) rivet once (sidepod gap panel + sidepod together) or b) rivet twice (sidepod gap panel and then sidepod with rivets between 1st set).
    • The splash panels were a little confusing at first, specifically where they slot into the frame. Once I figured that out, it went a bit faster. The side that's under the car lines up nicely with the sidepod.
    • The firewall aluminum panel is easiest to install by sliding it in through the sides triangles of the frame with the bottom of the panel towards the top. When it's fully through, rotate the panel so the bottom goes down along the firewall and top goes up along the frame.
    • I recommend sealing the edge of the firewall and heat shield. It looks a lot more professional/finished and prevents water from seeping in.
